The Eglin–Perdido Critical Linkage
The Eglin–Perdido Critical Linkage is Florida’s westernmost corridor, connecting to Alabama and supporting some of the most biologically diverse and globally rare habitats in the state. The landscape includes a significantly large tract of upland pine habitat along the Perdido River, along with pitcher plant bogs, bottomland forests, blackwater streams, and other rare natural communities. Its timberlands provide wildlife habitat, carbon storage, and opportunities for long-term ecological restoration—particularly of historic longleaf pine ecosystems. While the region faces growing development pressure, its protection is essential to maintaining ecological resilience and wildlife connectivity across the northern Gulf Coast.
